FNPA Energy Assessments
An energy assessment could be just what your community needs to develop a strategy, acquire funding, and get started on a project.
What is an Energy Assessment?
An energy assessment simply outlines how much energy a building uses, where the inefficiencies lie, and recommendations to follow for improved efficiency. When FNPA completes an energy assessment, the level of detail can vary based on your needs.
We can create a high-level assessment, including a rough estimate of how much energy a building uses, recommendations for clean energy adoption, and how much you’ll save each year following the implementation.
Or, we can dive a little deeper. With a more detailed energy assessment, we evaluate everything from building envelopes to light fixtures. This includes making recommendations on building materials and envelopes and modelling how the energy interacts with the envelope. We can even evaluate the energy usage of each and every light in an office space and provide recommendations for more energy-efficient options.
Then, once the assessment is complete, communities can use the information to apply for funding that will cover retrofits, upgrades, or construction.
FNPA’s Experience with Energy Assessments
This service can be particularly useful for rural and Indigenous communities looking to upgrade a specific building with renewable energy. We have worked on:
- PowWow grounds. This type of project often just requires an evaluation of the lighting system’s energy usage and recommendations for improvement.
- The Lac La Ronge Indian Band’s Land and Resource Management Office. The garage attached to this building added complexity to the assessment. When people moved in and out, air also moved in and out, making energy efficiency more difficult to evaluate and improve. We also evaluated office supplies like computers.
- A community building that was home to a gym, kitchen, offices, and more. With this large building, we looked at the air filtration, different ventilation needs, and the many materials used to construct it. This project was very elaborate, but it was a challenge our team enjoyed!
If your community requires an energy assessment to apply for funding or just complete some upgrades, we’re happy to help! There are funding options for an energy assessment, or we can discuss a fee. We’re excited to address your community’s needs!
