The Indigenous Clean Fuels Knowledge Transfer Partnership aims to enhance Indigenous communities’ and businesses’ knowledge of clean fuels and engage youth for training and internships in government, industry, and regulatory sectors.
First Nations Power Authority (FNPA) and project partner the Petroleum Technology Resource Center (PTRC) are developing an innovative Indigenous outreach, engagement, and education strategy focused on Clean Fuels. This strategy will facilitate knowledge sharing between Indigenous communities and industry, including the creation of post-secondary course materials, best practices guides, toolkits, and mentorship/internship opportunities. These resources can serve as models for academic institutions and industry partners.
Additionally, FNPA and PTRC are enhancing public understanding of the measurement, monitoring, verification, and data collection methods used to support Canada’s greenhouse gas emission (GHG) reduction targets and standards, as well as the broader regulatory landscape governing the energy and power generation sectors.
Benefits to Indigenous Stakeholders:
- Increased Indigenous participation and inclusion in the “green economy” through Indigenous-industry
- partnerships and knowledge exchange.
- Support increased research and internship opportunities for Indigenous youth and students.
- Support greater community-based capacity regarding clean fuels, renewable energy alternatives, energy
efficiency and energy literacy for rural and remote Indigenous communities.
Benefits to Industry:
- Increased knowledge of clean fuels and the economic and environmental opportunities provided by those fuels.
- Ideas and tangible plans for Indigenous engagement and youth recruitment.
Benefits to Canadians:
- To help address Canada’s commitment to reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, through increased knowledge among Indigenous communities and businesses of clean fuels and the economic and environmental opportunities provided by those fuels.
