CANADA ELECTRICITY ADVISORY COUNCIL RELEASES REPORT ON THE FUTURE OF ELECTRICITY IN CANADA

Energy and Natural Resources Canada has released the report of the Canada Electricity Advisory Council (CEAC), entitled Powering Canada: A Blueprint for Success (“the Report”). CEAC delivered the Report to the Minister on 27 May 2024.

In May 2023 the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources convened CEAC. The Minister asked it to provide independent advice to government on the steps needed to ensure that Canada’s electricity sector is positioned to assume its central role in achieving Canada’s emissions goals affordably, reliably, and in ways that facilitate Indigenous participation. CEAC was given 1 year to complete its work.

The Report acknowledges that the greater constitutional responsibility for electricity falls within provincial jurisdiction. Its 28 recommendations are directed to federal government actions that can facilitate provincial measures to achieve the objectives contained in the Report.

There will be two briefings to learn more about the Report and to ask Council members questions.

  • A French-language briefing will take place on Monday June 17 (0930-1100 EDT).
  • An English-language briefing will take place on Tuesday June 18 (1300-1430 EDT).

Please send an email to ceac-ccce@nrcan-rncan.gc.ca to register.
