Purpose

FNEI is the corporation behind the Omushkego Ishgotayo Project (Western James Bay Transmission line project), a 270 km long transmission line the services the remote communities of Attawapiskat, Kashechewan and Fort Albany. FNEI also supplies power to a line that connects the Debeers Canada Victor Diamond mine project north of Attawapiskat.

FNEI has been operating over 20 years, and is federally incorporated as a non-profit corporation.

Products and Services

As an electricity transmitter, FNEI is responsible for the delivery or transportation of electricity from Moosonee to the substations in the communities of Fort Albany, Kashechewan and Attawapiskat.

Transmitters in Ontario do not buy or sell energy, but they do construct, operate and maintain, the transmission systems that connect energy generators and distributors throughout the Province.

Key Accomplishments

FNEI also runs a fibre optic line that connects the communities it services, allowing the communities to become connected in 2020 through the Western James Bay Telecommunications Network company that was established to operate and maintain the fibre optic line.
