In 2018, FNPA began working with Driftpile Cree Nation (DPCN) on developing a Community Energy Plan (CEP) for their community. DPCN was interested in understanding ways their community could develop economic opportunities from renewable energy projects as well as reduce the cost of living for elders in their community. The CEP established an energy and emissions baseline, reviewed community and residential buildings energy usage, made recommendations for energy efficiency and conservation measures and provided an implementation plan for community and utility-scale renewable energy projects for Driftpile Cree Nation.
- Goal 1: Create opportunities for community members to be trained and educated in renewable energy and energy efficiency.
- Goal 2: Develop an Energy and Emissions Inventory for the community that includes current energy demand and greenhouse gas emissions.
- Goal 3: Establish a plan for DPCN to implement renewable energy and energy efficiency as a means of economic development in the community.
A final draft of the CEP was completed by FNPA in February 2019. The CEP is a living document and continues to be used by DPCN as they progress along a path towards a renewable energy future.
