Cowessess First Nation
Renewable Energy Opportunities Assessment
Background
In 2018, Cowessess First Nation was seeking assistance with understanding how much solar would be required to offset the electricity usage in their community buildings on-reserve. The Renewable Energy Opportunities Assessment looked at the electricity usage in all community buildings, estimated the size of a solar project (rooftop or ground mount) that would fit the buildings energy usage under the SaskPower Net-metering program, and designed the systems using FNPA’s engineering and design software.
Finally, the assessment analyzed the lifetime greenhouse gas emissions that would be offset by the solar projects at Cowessess First Nation. FNPA also assisted Cowessess with their application to the Low Carbon Economy Fund.
